SD Media, LLC

Small iOS apps, built properly — and the videos that show the work.

SD Media, LLC is an independent software studio. We design and build applications for iPhone and iPad, and produce technical video content about the hardware, tooling, and infrastructure behind them.

What we do

Software

Applications for people with a specific problem

We build focused, single-purpose apps for iPhone and iPad — the kind that do one job well, work offline, and don't ask for data they have no business collecting. Everything is designed and written in-house in Swift and SwiftUI.

Our current work spans consumer utilities and professional reference tools, with the first releases planned for the App Store.

Content

Documentation of the work, in video

Alongside the software, we produce long-form video covering home infrastructure, self-hosted services, and the development workflow behind our own apps — written and edited by the same person who does the building.

SD Media, LLC is owned and operated by Daniel Smith and is based in Oklahoma, United States.

In development

What we're building right now

Three applications are in active development. Each card shows where it actually sits in the pipeline — we'd rather show the honest stage than a launch date we haven't earned.

Consumer utility

Shower Timer

A quiet timer for the one place you can't hold a phone. Set a target, start it from the Lock Screen or a widget, and get haptic checkpoints instead of an alarm you have to reach for.

Built around Live Activities and the Dynamic Island, with household profiles so everyone gets their own target.

Professional reference

Anesthesia Reference

A fast, fully offline reference for anesthesia clinicians: weight-based dosing, infusion calculations, and equipment checklists, laid out for one-handed use in a working room.

Reference only. Intended to support clinical judgment, never to replace it, and built with no account, no network call, and no patient data.

Developer & power-user tool

Obsidian Widgets

Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets for an Obsidian vault — today's daily note, a pinned task list, and quick capture that appends straight to the vault without opening an app.

Reads a vault synced through iCloud Drive. Notes stay in plain Markdown on the device, exactly where the user left them.

Video

The Hobbyist Homelab

A video series on running real infrastructure at home: virtualization clusters, DNS and network design, self-hosted services, local AI inference, and the backup strategies that keep any of it worth doing. Practical builds, honest costs, and the mistakes left in.
